The chokeberry is becoming more and more popular due to the myriad of health benefits it provides.

Found in the eastern part of North America, this fruit has two types: the black chokeberry and the red chokeberry. While the red chokeberry tastes sweeter, the black chokeberry has the bonus of an extremely large amount of antioxidants.

Health Benefits

This fruit is rich in both antioxidants and dietary fiber, which helps to regulate digestion and blood sugar levels. Also, unlike other fruits, this small berry is low in calories. There is little fat in the chokeberry as well.

High levels of vitamin C, A, and E are found in the chokeberry. This berry is a rich source of potassium and iron.

How to Use

These berries can be consumed directly after being washed. They also serve as a great addition to ice cream, cottage cheese, yogurt, and fruit salads. Chokeberries are often used in juices and baked goods, such as muffins, pies, and tarts.
